The department was established on
4th January 1926 and is presently headed by Dr. B.D. Samant.The department
has well equipped laboratories for animal and human pharmacology with animal
house facilities as per CPCSEA norms. Various techniques in experimental,
biochemical & cellular pharmacology have been standardised by the departmental
staff members and hands-on experience will be offered to the participants.
Techniques for human pharmacology have also been established in collaboration
with various clinical departments and will be demonstrated.

Course Details -
The present course has been planned
with the objectives of familiarizing postgraduate students of Pharmacology
in various skills necessary for career building as a pharmacologist, providing
them an overview of the scope of pharmacology and point out fields where
they can contribute, exposing the participants with commonly used techniques
for evaluation of drugs & making them aware of intellectual and communication
skills needed in research, teaching, patient care & administration.
Trained and experienced local as well as guest faculty members will conduct
this interactive multimedia workshop which incldues lectures, group discussions,
demonstrations, role plays, debate & problem solving exercises. Visits
to pharmaceutical industries & pharmacological research institutes
will be organised. The postgraduate students who have taken up these courses
have now joined as medical directors, advisors, research directors in
reputed institutions and pharmaceutical industries in India & abroad.

Eligibility -
Postgraduate students of Pharmacology and Junior Lecturers (less than
5 yrs of postgraduation). Applications will be invited from medical colleges
& selection will be carried out based on merit and research aptitude
of the applicant
