The department was established in the year 1926 and is presently headed by Dr. J.V. Hardikar. It has a well equipped animal lab and teaching aids like knot-tying boards.

Course Details -
The objective is to train surgical residents and other postgraduate students in basic surgical skills. The course will be in the form of lectures and practical training on sutures, knot-tying, handling of instruments, surgery for hernia, intestinal anastomosis and staplers in surgery

Timing of the course - August/February
Periodicity - Twice a year
Duration of the course - 1 day
Eligibility - First year residents in surgery and allied specialities
Course fees - Rs.1000/
Collaborators - Ethicon
Evaluation - By practical examination; certificate will be issued at the end of course.

Course Details -
The objective is to train surgical residents in the principles and practice of endoscopy and laparoscopy. There will be lectures and demonstrations on handling and maintenance of endoscope and laparoscope, basic upper GI diagnostic endoscopy and basic laparoscopic skills on endotrainer

Duration of the course - 2 days
Eligibility - II year residents in surgery and allied specialities
