Anatomy

A handbook of the department of AnatomyThe Academic Calendar

The academic course for M.B.,B.S. students is divided into three units viz. Unit I, Unit II and Unit III.

The courses of instruction covered in the three units are as follows:

Unit I:

Upper & Lower limbs

Unit II:

Thorax & the Abdomen

Unit III:

The Head, Neck & Brain

Course work is conducted on alternate days of the week, from Monday through Saturday.

Dissection, diligently performed is still the mainstay of the learning process in Gross Anatomy, and it is done best as a small group activity with the full participation & co-operation of all members. The group generally consists of three students who are assigned a part for dissection. It is due to this emphasis on group activity that students’ roll numbers are not assigned by arranging their names in alphabetical order. Instead, students are encouraged to form groups of three, of their own choice and then register with the department office where roll numbers are assigned serially, as students register.

For the purpose of demonstrations, students are divided into small batches and assigned one teacher who supervises dissections, interacts with students as required and also participates in grading their performance at the end of the dissection sessions for the particular part. Usually, all students are exposed to all the teachers during the entire course.

The dissection for each part is divided into sessions.

Before each session, the dissection work for the session is described in detail and the goals to be achieved at the end of the session are outlined.

What the mind does not know,
