Anatomy
Facilities available
Museum :
The G. M. Kurulkar Anatomy museum has excellent dry and wet specimens prepared over the years under the guidance of successive departmental heads, as also, specimens made by students. Included are several specimens for study in Comparative Anatomy. An extension of this museum housed in Carl Ernst Von Baer has preserved embryology specimens as well as neuroanatomy and embryology models.
Clinical Research Lab :
This new facility has been added to the department which is one of its kind in the world. This has two units - a dissection room and an audiovisual room (q.v.). The dissection room has endoscopy stations and microsurgery stations where endoscopic surgery and microsurgery can be practised on cadavers/cadaveric parts.
The Audio-Visual Room :
The audio-visual room (AV room) has a mini-conference room and computer-CD/DVD ROM units and a CD/DVD Library. Before practising the dissection in the clinical research lab, one can visualise the surgery in the AV room. Small demonstrations-cum-workshops can be conducted in these rooms because both rooms are linked by audio-visual connection.
X-ray library :
Since Body Imaging techniques have become increasingly important in diagnosis and treatment, students are introduced to Radiological Anatomy during the course. The X-ray library has meticulously prepared sets of important radiographs, which are issued to students for home study.
Bone Library :
A careful study of the bones in a particular
part lays down a useful outline for the further study of the region. Osteology
is perhaps best learnt by reading, with quiet contemplation of the dried
bone. With this in mind, the Bone library issues dried bones to students
for study in the department as well as at home.
CD Library :
Majority of the lectures in Anatomy are conducted by making use of computer
and digital projector, both of which are exclusive for the lecture hall.
Beautiful pictures are projected from CDs using this advanced technology
by keeping in mind the old saying, "Things once seen by the eyes, are never
forgotten". This visual treat gives a better perspective of the subject
and an in-depth knowledge of the subject which in itself is imaginative.
The CDs from the library can be used by the students for their seminars
/ case discussions.
Guest Lectures :
Guest lectures are arranged on a regular basis by the department, inviting
authorities in various fields related to Anatomy and its allied subjects.
This gives students a broader perspective of the subject and its applications.
Apart from these lectures, arranged ad lib, the G.M. Kurulkar memorial
oration is arranged Bi-annually with eminent persons from varied fields.
In 2004 following guest lectures were organized:

Intranet/Internet :
GSMC intranet welcomes you with pictures of GSMC and KEM. Intranet can connect
you to DMER, MUHS and our own undergraduate section to see the timetable
of the students' clinical postings. There is an on-line notice board, staff
directory and E-library also. There are Quotaris (Dr Kothari's corner) to
entertain and an audiovisual feast named TIMELESS. One can get connected
to the World Wide Web free of cost through the intranet. The intranet is
limitless but one may try to fathom its depth using the computers in the
library, which are reserved for Gosumecs. The college and the hospital has
got its website http://www.kem.edu where
the department has its home page. The e-mail address of the department is
