Collaboration with IIH

ICMR has already recognized the 10 ^th floor hematology inpatient facilities of the Dr. J. C. Patel Hematology Department at the KEM Hospital as its clinical wing for the conduct of various research activities and drug trials. The following facilities are available to the Dr. J. C. Patel Department of Hematology from IIH [ICMR] for various collaborative projects

Evaluation of routine hematology workup with automated particle counter for the study of various hematological disorders.
Evaluation of Haemolytic Anemia, red cell enzyme studies and haemoglobinopathies including prenatal diagnosis.
Evaluation of all bleeding and thrombophillic disorders including carrier detection and prenatal diagnosis.
Evaluation of platelet function disorders, aggregometry and receptor studies.
Evaluation of transfusion transmitted disorders, diagnosis of Hepatitis B, C and HIV 1+2 [Elisa & Western Blot]
HLA tissue typing & cross-matching.
Molecular biology techniques applied to different hematological disorders like PCR, Reverse Dot Blot Hybridization, etc.
Haemopoietic stem cell isolation, invitro culture in semisolid and liquid media, long term one marrow culture.
Hybridoma technology.
Autoimmune disorder screening and detection of antiplatelet antibodies.
Flow cytometry and surface marker studies for various hematological malignancies as well cell cycle studies of leukemic cells
Red cell serology and grouping & crossmatching studies in the investigation of mismatched blood transfusion.
Evaluation of Autoimmune Hemolytic anemia, screening and diagnosis.
Intrauterine red cell transfusion in mothers with Rh sensitization.
Study of chromosomal abnormalities in haemopoietic disorders.
Evaluation of Iron overload with Serum Iron and ferritin studies.
Evaluation of Megaloblastosis with Serum B12/Folate and DU suppression studies.

The IIH has a well equipped library with a good number of books, periodicals and Journals. It also has Medline on CD ROM as well as an Internet connection [TCP/IP account] for online search. It also subscribes to the Current Contents which are available on floppies for ready reference on the IIH computer network. It has an excellent audio visual conference hall facilities that are being used for interdepartmental teaching programmes.
