HOSPITAL BASED SURVEILLANCE FOR CHILDHOOD MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY

This project was initiated in the month of March 2004 by ICMR in order to have database of childhood morbidity and mortality. The pilot study was done during April - May 2004 at our centre. Data was collected from a total of 458 discharged patients during 04/04/04 to 12/05/04 using standard proformae consisting of information about age, sex, weight, diagnosis etc. Out of 458, 16 babies died and 30 babies referred to other tertiary care hospitals. The data was sent to ICMR HQrs for further analysis.
