The Pathology Department has the following sections and offers services in various laboratories scattered all over the hospital.
a) Surgical histopathology
b) Autopsy services ( round the clock)
c) Cytology - Fine needle aspiration cytology
d) Clinical pathology - hematology, OPD 008, Orthopedic Lab
e) Chemical Pathology (EMS)
f) Neuropathology,
g) Bloodbank
h) Immunopathology
i) Cardiac and Pulmonary Pathology
j) Emergency laboratory - Urgent hematological investigations, CSF and other fluids
k) Routine and emergency biochemical investigations are carried out in the centralised
clinical biochemistry laboratory.
The department has one of the heaviest workloads
in the city examining close to 180,00 samples of body fluids each year.
Besides 9000 histopathological examinations and 5000 aspiration samples
are evaluated. Approximately 2500 post mortem examinations are handled by
the department each year. The Neuropathology and the Cardiovascular pathology
sections of the department are premier sections which have a pioneered many
reports and landmark studies in their respective fields.
