Pediatrics Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Shri Jhaverbhai Tarjabhai pediatric ICU is unique of its kind in the country. Established in 1993 and renovated in August 2002, this PICU has a capacity for 15 beds and has 6 ventilators in a central AC set up, with interconnected multichannel monitors for each bed mounted on the walls and heading towards point of care pediatrics in ICU setup. It also has ECG machine, doppler, ultrasonic nebuliser and cardiovascular defibrillator. It also undertakes various procedures from long lines to tracheostomies and peritoneal dialysis and exchange transfusions. Average occupancy of our pediatric ICU being 90 to 100% with on an average 30% death rate. In PICU , patients are received from all over the country after initial assessment and apart from strict asepsis, respiratory support and intensive care is provided. We have a significantly high incidence of cases of tetanus on record. PICU is managed by senior faculty members in rotation along with a team of residents present in PICU for 24 hours. Picu is headed by Dr. Keya Lahiri, Prof. and Head of the Dept. of pediatrics and assisted by Dr. Chandrahas Deshmukh, Professor in pediatrics along with Dr. Santosh Kondekar, Lecturer in pediatrics. |
