on 8th May 2001, this center provides comprehensive health services catering
exclusively to the needs of children with thalassemia who were previously
given regular saline washed packed cell(SWPC) transfusions in general wards.
Patients from all over Maharashtra and nearby states come here regularly
for transfusions. At present, this is the only center in the state which
has facility for SWPC transfusions.
At present 90 children are enroled and they receive SWPC transfusion an
a periodic basis by appointment, with follow-up growth monitoring, chelation
therapy and screening for blood borne infections, splenic sequestration
studies and antenatal screening of expectant mothers.
This center also provides a child friendly atmosphere with recreational
facilities for children. This centre is open between 9 am to 4 pm.
