Surgery

Activities :

The Department manages the major emergency surgical admissions at Seth G.S. Medical College.It has an emergency ward, which is situated next to casualty department. All serious patients are treated here initially before shifting to other wards. The department also runs General Surgery OPD every day.

The department has two operation theatres, four operating tables for elective (JMT) and three operating tables for emergency (MOT) for routine and emergency work, apart from this there is minor surgery theatre for septic/aseptic, minor surgical care is also available next to casualty. Every unit has an O.P.D. day and two elective surgery days. Emergencies on the O.P.D. day are looked after by respective unit.

The department also runs following clinics and services :

  1. Endoscopy :
    Diagnostic and therapeutic emergencies and routine services are available here.
    Upper G.I. endoscopy.
    Therapeutic procedures.
  2. G.I.Surgical Services.
  3. Experimental laboratory (Dog Lab).
  4. Anorectal clinic with facility for fiberoptic sigmoidoscopy.
  5. Dermato - Surgical Clinic.
  6. Sport O.P.D. - In collaboration with Orthopaedic and Physiotherapy Departments
  7. Tumor Clinic.
  8. Isolation ward.

Academic and other activities:

  1. Regular teaching programmes for UG & PG - weekly meeting, lectures, clinics, seminars, monthly death conference, guest lectures.
  2. All staff members are busy more than their fixed schedule of working timing in patient care, teaching and research.
  3. Weekly Head of Surgical Unit meeting with H.O.D.
  4. Representatives sent for MET cell meetings, CE cell meetings for conducting workshop & programme.
  5. 30 research paper presented in various national and regional conferences.
  6. 12 articles published in various International and National journals.
  7. Active participation in medical team for national game during 1996.
